How did you meet?
We met 10 years ago when I was working at the Story Bridge Hotel & Jake used to come in every weekend with his friends (if not multiple times per weekend)! We then kept crossing paths over the years in a lot of different ways; at the airport when I was working as a flight attendant, out in Fortitude Valley and Oxford St in Bulimba. It sounds corny, but I think we were meant to come together!
What type and flavour of cake did you have?
White Chocolate Macadamia and Chocolate Hazelnut (the cake was simple and elegant but had edible figurines of our 2 little dogs poking out the back).
How did he propose?
We were at my place sitting after boxing day and decided to have prawns and a bottle of wine on the back deck together. While I was peeling the prawns, Jake got the ring out of the safe. We sat on the deck for a while until Jake finally decided to get Steele (our chihuahua) off his lap and he got down on one knee and proposed.
What did you do for your Hens night?
My close friends and family went to Soko rooftop for a long lunch followed by a night at FV Peppers in their entertainment suite where we had food and drink and a performance by a Drag Queen (Scarlett Fever)
What did he do for his Bucks night?
Jake and his close mates went down to Melbourne for 3 nights where they watched the AFL in a Corporate Box, went to the Races and the Casino
First Dance song?
Dance with me - Debelah Morgan (we took 9 Tango lessons and did a surprise Tango Dance for the guests. Taylor got changed in to a sequined dress and did a surprise entrance)
Honeymoon?
Currently sitting in dubai Airport on a stop over before we land in Italy! We are doing Italy & Croatia. Venice, Lake Como, Milan, Florence, Split, Dubrovnik, Positano & Rome
How and why did you choose your wedding venue?
I had spent a lot of time at Rainforest Gardens as I have been high school friends with Adeline (Venue Manager) since we were 14. It is a stunning venue, surrounded by Greenery, animals, fresh air and has everything at your fingertips! Stunning Ceremony, Phenomenal views from the reception area and onsite accommodation in their treetop chalets!
What was the budget for your wedding?
We didn’t set one…. We just hoped for the best but didn’t want to skimp on anything. We wanted plenty of food and an unlimited bar tab. Our priority was that it was a night for our guests to really enjoy and to remember!
How did you go about choosing your wedding dress? (How many did you try on, your experience etc.)
I like to get things done and dusted so I actually bought a dress from the first place that I went with girlfriends and my mum and sister, even though it didn't really feel like me. Then my sister was trying on wedding dresses with my mum and I and we all saw one that we loved for me instead. My sister and mum both insisted that I try it on even though I didn’t want to steal the shine off Kirby but as soon as I had it on they told me I had to buy it!!! This was from Pearl Bridal and they turned the dress around in 3 months!
Groom: What thoughts did you have while waiting at the alter/then seeing the bride walk down the aisle?
Initially I was very nervous and overwhelmed but as soon as I saw Tay I was super happy and as soon as she eventually reached me I felt super calm and happy and thought she looked beautiful.
What was the most stressful part of wedding planning?
Thinking of all the nitty gritty logistics to make decisions that made sense and that made the day flow as smooth as possible. Adeline helped me with this to no end!! and I sincerely credit a lot of the success of the wedding to her!
Any unique or surprising details about your wedding?
We had our 2 dogs involved (Mini Fox Terrier called Chilli and Chihuahua called Steele) in the ceremony even though the Chihuahua Steele is on Prozac for anxiety and there was every chance he was going to wee himself everywhere - it was worth having him there! We also did a surprise Tango dance. I left and got changed and when the first dance was called was ‘nowhere to be seen’ until the music started and after a few beats I entered the reception area in a ‘dancing with the stars’ sort of outfit with sequins and tassels.
What was the standout moment of the day?
The dogs behaviour! and probably the tango dance. But the photos turned out exceptional too! They captured the day so accurately.
What was a wedding non-negotiable for you?
Having an open bar tab. We were never going to cap that for our guests!!
Top wedding hack?
Pinterest Pinterest Pinterest! A picture tells a thousand words and Pinterest was a great help in getting the ‘vision’ come to fruition.
When in doubt, keep it simple! What do you both enjoy as a couple? Make it true to you both and don’t worry about other people’s requests or preferences if they don’t agree with yours! It’s your day!
